south western of Amsterdam.

The easiest, cheapest and quickest way to go to Amsterdam city centre is by train. The train station is directly below the airport, and by taking a train to "Amsterdam CS" (Central Station) you will be already within the city centre of Amsterdam. There are even night trains once an hour.
Of course, you can also take a taxi, but you are better off saving that money for a nice dinner with your travel mates or new friends in a restaurant along the channels in Amsterdam.
If you plan to rent a car, better ask your hotel in advance about parking opportunities. Within inner Amsterdam driving and parking a car can be a real challenge.
