Prenzlauer Berg

Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg Prenzlauer Berg is a district in the northeast of Berlin. Unlike most other districts of Berlin which had been heavily destroyed during the war or demolished in favour of new buildings in the 1950s and 1960s, Prenzlauer Berg is still rich in old residential houses. After the political and economical changes in 1989/1990 many of these houses had been reconstructed. Now, the district is one of Berlin's most beautiful areas.

If you wanna rest from sight-seeing, escape the tourist busses in the city center Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg and dive into Berlin's real urban life just take the subway U2 to Eberswalder Straße or Schönhauser Allee and stroll around the streets. Especially on warm evenings when thousands of people sit outside the countless cafes, pubs and restaurants (whose prices are usually still moderate). Especially advisable are the streets between Schönhauser Allee and Prenzlauer Allee like Stargarder Straße, Pappelallee and Lychener Straße Map as well as Husemannstraße and Sredzkistraße. Map

Topping Berlin

Berlin, TV Tower The Television Tower at Alexanderplatz has a Telecafé in its globe at a height of 207 metres. It rotates 360° in one hour, so you can overlook entire Berlin just from your table. Map

Beaching Berlin

Soon after Paris had its first artificial beach along the banks of the Seine river several such beaches and beach bars emerged all over Berlin. Here are some suggestions in case you would like to rest with a German beer or Caribbean cocktail in a canvas chair after a day of sight-seeing or after a long Berlin night.

Berlin, Capital Beach Bar The ›Capital Beach Bar‹ (right picture) at Ludwig-Erhard-Ufer with palm trees but without sand is perfectly located in front of the new Central Station and close to the Reichstag building. Map

Just a few metres away and across the Spree river you got the ›Bundespressestrand‹, named after the Bundespresseamt (Federal Information Agency) behind it. With view of Reichstag and Bundeskanzleramt (German Chancellery). Map

If you hang around Potsdamer Platz you can enjoy a drink, cocktail and snack on the ›Sommerwelt‹ sun deck at the small ›Piano‹ lake in front of the Musical Theater. Map They even have a Bedouin tent where you can relax on oriental pillows and with a water pipe. From June to August daily 10:00 – 22:00.
