About Mykonos and its gay life

Mykonos is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea and part of the Cyclades island group. In the summer months, the island's population of about ten thousand is joined by many sun-seeking beach holidaymakers who come to the – now quite expensive – island by ferry or plane.

The island's capital, Mykonos Town (also called ›Chora‹), located on the west coast, is particularly fascinating for its architecture typical of the Cyclades: white houses with flat roofs, decorated balconies and colored windows and wooden doors. Other landmarks of the capital as well as the island are the old windmills ›Kato Mili‹, the ›Panagia Paraportiani‹ church and the picturesque quarter ›Little Venice‹ at the waterfront.

For decades, Mykonos has also been a popular vacation destination for gays and is known for its outstanding LGBT-friendliness. Fans of Ralf König will remember his comic book Super Paradise from 1999. An annual highlight on Mykonos is the big international gay party festival XLSIOR in August.
