The island's capital, Mykonos Town (also called ›Chora‹),
located on the west coast, is particularly fascinating for its architecture
typical of the Cyclades: white houses with flat roofs, decorated balconies and
colored windows and wooden doors.
For decades, Mykonos has also been a popular vacation destination for gays and is known for its outstanding LGBT-friendliness. Fans of Ralf König will remember his comic book Super Paradise from 1999. An annual highlight on Mykonos is the big international gay party festival XLSIOR in August.
